As therapists of many years' experience we have become increasingly aware of the problem of porn addiction, fuelled by the spread of easy, affordable internet access. Porn addiction - or just individuals reporting a "problem with porn" - has become a huge issue, with negative impacts on peoples' sex lives, relationships and even career. Again and again we find that what starts out as fun, curiosity and the relief of sexual tension ends up as an ingrained habit taking up more and more time, done increasingly in secret and away from peoples' partners. All the while, clients then report becoming exposed to not only more explicit, but more fetish based, violent and even illegal material. Typically, porn users go through cycles of downloading, feeling ashamed, deleting and downloading again. In some cases porn is used to relieve anxiety rather than sexual tension and users either pray their partners don't find out, or are discovered and find their partner is angry, bewildered and upset. If they're single, porn gets in the way too - it seems to stop them finding or keeping a fulfilling relationship. Worse, for some, porn habits develop into sexual encounters such as escort services or voyeurism, with great potential for harm and even a criminal record.

What struck us is what all the studies confirm, most likely, if you're using porn a lot you're not feeling sexual fulfilment, enjoyment or esteem. You're more likely, alongside millions of other internet porn users, to be feeling anxiety, shame, and above all a sense of helplessness and feeling trapped by your porn use. You want to change it, to quit - or at least, to get it in perspective and get your personal life back on track. But probably, you don't know how.

Then you might look for a solution. Again, there are lots of problems here. For a start, porn addiction is secret and anonymous. It's probably the hardest addiction or problem to speak about with other people. (As one client said, "my wife would be sympathetic if I said I was an alcoholic, and I would know where to get help - but she wouldn't a problem with porn - and I have no idea where to go for help with it.") Few therapists have the expertise to deal with this issue and seeing a therapist is a long term and expensive commitment where you also have to explain to your partner where you're going. 12 Step programs or group based solutions require you, again, to commit to travelling somewhere to meet with strangers and to risk being seen. Faith based solutions are OK if you already have a religious belief, but not much help if you don't. If you have a problem with porn, it can seem a minefield to get help. You'll probably be discouraged and put off making the changes you need - until things get worse.

Our 5-Step Process is the solution to this minefield; from our years of experience we have created a flexible program using the latest techniques, structured in a unique way. The 5-step process is not therapy, although it draws from it and requires your commitment and participation. You'll be able to work through the steps anonymously and privately, at your own pace. You'll participate in exercises in written and audio format and can get regular feedback from an experienced and qualified therapist, including live chat or phone support. You'll also be able to access confidential online forums where you can share your experiences and gain support from other people with the same problem. There is even support via specialist accountability software to help you even more.

In short then, we're offering the 5-Step HeLP Porn Addiction Process as the most comprehensive, safe, supported and well researched program we could create. We hope you'll join us and together we can help you make the change you want.
